Environment and Climate Change

Within the sectors for education, health and strengthening of local societies, there are many possibilities of incorporating an environmental aspect as a cross-cutting issue.

Within education, tree planting and environmental information could be a possible activity

In recent time, the changing climate has become an urgent issue, which has links to environmental issues. Climate change needs to be addressed with high priority, as this is affecting negatively the prospects for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Climate change has thus become a cross-cutting issue linked to Environment, which must be considered in all interventions supported by DMCDD.

DMCDD has developed a strategy “Responding to Climate Change”, which gives a general introduction to the implications of climate change especially for the developing countries as well as outlines DMCDD’s approach to address climate change.

Environment and climate is one of the five political priorities for the 2010 strategy for Denmark’s development cooperation. Please read more on Danida’s website.

DMCDD recommends checking out CARE’s website on climate change, which includes many valuable resources and toolkits. For example, project document checklists are available to help ensure that climate change adaptation is integrated in the different stages of a project cycle. Please find some of the checklists below.
